Flying with the EXP5000
600-00157-000 Rev. 06 -41- Entegra EXP5000 PFD
AP (Autopilot) and FD (Flight Director) Modes
The EXP5000 supports the AP (Autopilot) and FD (Flight Director)
modes for S-Tec 1500 autopilots. In FD-equipped aircraft, single-cue
FD steering command bars display the flight profile commanded by
the autopilot. The FD steering command bars indicate how to fly the
aircraft to achieve the path commanded by the autopilot.
Engage the AP and FD modes as described in the S-Tec 1500
documentation. They can not be engaged from the PFD.
The presence of the FD steering command bars (magenta) reflect the
AP and FD mode:
AP (Autopilot) Mode - There are no Flight Director steering
command bars. The autopilot flies the aircraft.
FD (Flight Director) Mode - In FD mode, the FD steering
command bars show you where to steer, but you need to fly the
aircraft so that the Aircraft Reference Symbol (ARS) is tucked
into the FD steering command bars.
AP/FD (Full Autopilot) Mode - In AP/FD mode, the autopilot flies
the aircraft, precisely tucking the ARS into the FD steering
command bars.
The FD steering command bars are limited to +/- 30° in roll and +/-
15° in pitch with respect to the aircraft reference symbol.
Autopilot Operation During a PFD Failure
Note: The autopilot can be coupled only to a Nav source selected on
the PFD; it cannot be coupled to a Bearing source.
Note: A small amount of jitter in the FD steering command bars is
considered normal.
!
S-TEC 1500 Autopilot Operation During PFD Failures
The S-TEC 1500 requires a dual-PFD installation to operate.
If either PFD fails, the autopilot cannot be engaged.
